The arrival of a coronal mass ejection (gust of solar wind) in the wee hours of St. Patrick’s Day 2013 quickly became a pot of gold for aurora photographers in Yellowknife. Wave upon wave of charged particles caused the upper atmosphere to glow red, green and purple in one of the most colourful and memorable displays of Solar Cycle 24.
